"Bullitt" { Film und Fernsehen }
Today I watched part of a video I lent out from the public library: "Bullitt" (1968), directed by Peter Yates, starring Steve McQueen in the title role. "Part of", because it is (at least for me) almost impossible to concentrate all the time in a library where people are talking, wandering by, etc. (A movie/video I managed to watch in full length is "The French Connection" (1971) by William Friedkin.)
The best scene today was the famous car chase which I already mentioned here previously. Wow - what can I say? Even the introduction to this chase is simply marvellous, when the driver (Bill Hickman) of the car Steve McQueen trails fastens his seat belt, and then: wroooar! At exactly the same moment the music (composed by Lalo Schifrin) stops dead (right at the close of the bar), and about the only sounds that accompany the entire chase are the sounds of the motors and the screeching of the wheels!
Some trivia: The motorcyclist who appears near the end of the chase apparently wasn't part of the set. The two cars, modified for the chase, were a 1968 Ford Mustang GT and a 1968 Dodge Charger.
